ENGAGEMENT Finally got something to blog about but the event happened like 2 weeks ago. Oops! :) Anyways, on the 14th of April was my cousin's engagement day. So following the Vietnamese tradition, there was an engagement ceremony that took place at the bride's place around 10am. Kim and I went to my cousin's house earlier to get our make-up done and so that I can take photos. Since the ceremony is very small compared to the actual wedding, I was asked by the bride's mum, my aunty to be the photographer. As much as I wanted to be the photographer, I did feel that they weren't going to take me seriously because I'm not a professional photographer, haha I don't look like one on the day and my camera isn't one of those chunky DSLR cameras, which is what people would find to be the source for professional photos. But oh wells, I have great faith in my little Nex-5N. So I managed to take over 1000 photos in the 3 hours but I went on a deleting spree because no one really wants to look at 1000+ photos and taadaa I had cut it down to around 300 photos.
So here's how it works well our family's variation of how it works: The bride waited, somewhere she can't be seen while her 8 girls (not all bridesmaids) , all in Traditional Vietnamese Dresses (ao dai) waited for the groom and his close families and friends to arrive. Once the groom arrived, 8 guys chosen from his family and friends stood in front of the girls while carrying 8 different gifts. These gifts were passed to the girls, who then carries it inside the house. Some ceremony happened saying they are engaged and then the groom whipped out the ring and put it on the bride's finger. Yep that pretty much sums it up. A bit different to what I expected because I thought some tea thing would happened. Well I'm assuming no one in the family had witnessed an actual Vietnamese engagement ceremony. So can't blame them haha.
Shall we move on to the photos then? I was being selective. Haha I swear 1/3 of the photos are like kid photos :) They are so natural that the photos turned out great!
